Black Widows logo The Waterford Black Widows Softball Club was founded in 2007 by Coach Brad Thompson. Already retired from coaching, he was asked to be an assistant on his daughter’s school softball club. There he discovered that there was a tremendous amount of young ladies who could flat out play the game. He encouraged these young ladies to expand their talents and consider playing summer softball which all agreed to do. He shrewdly added the best player in the school league and the Waterford Black Widows were born! The team lived up to coach’s expectations and promptly went out and captured the 2007 Waterford Parks and Recreation Girls 9 and Under Championship with a record of 12-2. This has prompted coach to expand his roster to include talented girls from as far away as Ann Arbor, Michigan to play for the squad.

The Black Widows have decided to join the North Oakland Fastpitch League for the 2008 season. “I feel we have assembled a roster that can one day compete with not only the top girls in the county but the top girls in the state,” Thompson says. “We have assembled a roster of young ladies that have the character, work ethic, and desire that can take them beyond their wildest dreams as softball players. My number one goal for these girls is to have them grow up to be fine young members of society and reach their potential academically, socially, spiritually, and athletically. The sky is the limit for these tremendous young ladies.”
