Head Coach Brad Thompson
This is Thompson’s second year coaching the Waterford Black Widows. Thompson began his coaching career in 1994 as an assistant Baseball Coach for Huron University in South Dakota. As the pitching coach, Thompson’s pitchers led the conference in ERA. He moved back home to Michigan accepting the Head Junior Varsity position at Seaholm High School in 1995. While at Seaholm Thompson guided the Maples to a 29-2 record capturing the OAA Division 2 JV Crown. That success earned him the Varsity Head Baseball Coaching Position at Pontiac Notre Dame Prep. Thompson spent 4 years at Prep compiling a 71-48 record for the Irish while capturing league titles in 1996 and 1997 and winning the Catholic League Championship in 1997. Thompson later was the head coach at Wyandotte Roosevelt from 2000-2002 earning a 30-42 record. Thompson has coached many baseball players that have gone on to play at the collegiate levels.
As an amateur, Thompson prepped at Detroit Country Day School. He played football, hockey, and baseball earning all county honors in hockey. It was baseball however that was Thompson’s true passion twice earning All County, League, District Regional, State, Dream Team honors while finishing 4th in the voting for 1988 Mr. Baseball in Michigan. This earned Thompson a scholarship to Indiana University. He was also drafted in the 51st round of the MLB amateur draft by the Chicago Cubs. Although his collegiate career turned out no way that he had hoped for Thompson earned a degree in Education and now teaches World History, American History, Economics, and Black History at Pontiac Central High School.
Thompson played Semi Pro ball in Pontiac for the Class A Pontiac Parkers helping lead them to 10 straight championships, a league record. Thompson was named MVP of the team 6 times leading the team in batting average 4 of them, homeruns 2 of them, RBI 7 of them, and winning 2 triple crowns and a record 9 playoff MVP. He was the Midwest Regional MVP in 2000 leading the Parkers to the World Series in Louisville Kentucky where they finished 3rd in the nation.
A Waterford native, Thompson was married in 1998 to his wife Roxi. They have two children, Hope and Gunnar and reside in Waterford.
